Making the most of feedback
This is the important part. The responses you receive will indicate your red and green flags in your relationships with friends, family, work colleagues and loved ones. This is the gentle mirror inviting you to take a look inside. How are you truly showing up to those who love you most?
Now, what you do with the feedback matters! Inviting someone you love or respect to provide constructive feedback requires you to take it on board with love and grace. By truly listening, youâre saying, âI see you, I feel you, I hear you, and you matter.â
Feeling nervous about this exercise is normal â often, we donât want to know the truth. Entering into deep conversations can raise tension, fear or unresolved issues. It can also help us strengthen our connection, understanding and love with friends, family and other Dream Team members. If you find this challenging, embrace and enjoy the process. Knowledge is power, and the most effective way to learn is through open channels of communication. Choosing to be grateful for this information empowers us to remain positive and unguarded to the feedback and lessons.
We have seen many relationships heal, families reconnect and lives transform through this exercise. Have the courage to lean in and let the work transform you and your loved ones. By embracing feedback with an open heart, you can foster deeper, more meaningful relationships.
While you digest the feedback, we suggest the following steps:
Be present: Do they want you to be more present? Perhaps more one-on-one time or regular date nights?
Self-reflection: If the feedback triggers you, take a deep breath and ask yourself why. How does it make you feel? Take your time uncovering your story in this.
Regulate your emotions: Once youâve processed your feelings, choose how to respond thoughtfully.
Deepening connection and healing in relationships: You donât need to solve or heal people. Simply letting them express their feelings without judgement can heal relationships.
Green flags: Do more of what strengthens your connection.
Red flags: Do less of what harms your relationship, or address these issues before itâs too late.
